Chocolate & almond butter flax protein shake

This shake is the perfect thing for those times when you need something quick, delicious and simple to throw together for an on the go breakfast, speedy snack or post-workout refuel without the fuss. It’s a protein shake, but with a few added extras, to not only increase the nutritional value, but also add a delicious extra dimension to the flavour! 

You may also notice that this smoothie is also banana free! Now, I love bananas and they do help to make smoothies so incredibly sweet and creamy; but seeing as bananas are pretty much included in every smoothie recipe that i’ve made, I thought it might be nice to mix things up a little and try something different. I’ve collaborated with two amazing brands: Tribe and Meridian to bring you this recipe, made with their vegan protein blend and incredible almond butter.

I must say, I was really impressed with the chocolate protein from Tribe, as it has a really rich and intense chocolate flavour, that’s not too overpoweringly sweet. If I’m going to have something chocolate flavoured, such as a shake, I really like the flavour to be more of a rich chocolate, rather than something more sugary tasting.. if you know what I mean? As you will probably already know, I’m already a huge fan of the Meridian nut butters and have my cupboard stocked full of them at all times! The original almond butter is still one of my absolute favourite flavours and I just love the incredible rich, creamy flavour that it gives this shake! 

To boost the fibre content of the smoothie, I’ve added in some oats and also a flaxseed blend. Oats are one of my favourite carbs sources and they’re a great thing to include in so many different recipes. I find that they blend really well in smoothies, leaving a really creamy consistency. Flaxseeds also help to thicken the smoothie and ground flaxseed is so easy and versatile to add to shakes, fruit salads and oatmeal.

Chocolate & almond butter flax protein shake


  • 1 scoop of chocolate vegan protein- I used the Tribe Protein
  • 1 tbsp almond butter
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp oats
  • 1 tsp ground flaxseed blend- Linwoods


  1. Add all of the above ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth and creamy.
